Where the spirit does not work with the hand there is no art.
Leonardo Da Vinci
Almost daily as a child I would walk to the little grocery store up the street and get cardboard boxes. I would cut them into doll houses or mazes for my neighbor’s guinea pig. At the end of the day these same boxes would become wonderful places to store my many treasures. My passion, still, is boxes and paper.
Classes at a local museum brought me to paste painting and box building. I was instantly hooked on this creative process. I quickly realized the incredible versatility of these beautiful hand-painted papers. I have, since mastering boxes, added journals and a line of vibrant jewelry to my paper line.
When I showed my mother my first hand painted paper box she remarked “Your art has finally come home to what you loved as a child; boxes and paper.” Amazingly, that is exactly what this creative process felt like to me – coming home.
Over the years I have integrated my love of nature with my art, often finding inspiration from the beach and the vibrant colors of my perennial gardens. Recently I became fascinated by maps and have now added a line of boxes, journals and jewelry using maps from around the world.
